Mesothelioma is also commonly known as malignant mesothelioma, a strange kind of tumor that grows inside the protective shell of most of the internal organs of the body, the mesothelium. Cancer is the result of exposure to asbestos.
The cancer usually develops in the pleura (ie, the surface of the lining of the lungs and internal chest barrier). Yet the cancer can grow in the peritoneum (abdominal cavity, painting), the tunica vaginalis (stock exchange, a testis and surroundings) or the pericardium (ie, a sac that surrounds the heart).
Most people who acquire a mesothelioma that at some point in his life he worked in jobs where they breathed asbestos and patches of glass, or have been exposed to asbestos dust and fibers in other ways. It was also shown that cleaning the clothes of family members who worked with asbestos can put the person doing the laundry at risk of developing mesothelioma. While smoking may increase the likelihood of developing other types of asbestos cancers stimulated, there is no medical evidence showing a relationship between mesothelioma and smoking. People who have been subjected to asbestos and the risk of accumulated asbestos-related diseases like mesothelioma. Payments asbestos litigation background is a critical issue in the practice of law on mesothelioma.
The signs that someone is suffering from a malignant mesothelioma consisting of shortness of breath result of pleural effusion (ie, the fluid between the lung and the chest wall barriers) or chest pain barrier wall, on top of general signs, such as loss of weight. The diagnosis can be identified within the X-ray computed tomography, and has secured a biopsy (tissue examination), the microscopic analysis. Thoracoscopy (this is when the tube, the camera is inserted into the chest) can be used to obtain biopsies. Allows the inclusion of materials such as talcum powder to destroy the pleura (known as pleurodesis), which scares the collection more fluid and increased pulmonary embolism. Despite treatment with radiation therapy with chemotherapy and sometimes surgery for mesothelioma is grim prognosis. Studies on screening for early prediction of mesothelioma are still pending.
Signs and symptoms
Signs and symptoms of mesothelioma may not appear until twenty Fifty years after the first exposure to asbestos. Shortness of breath, cough and chest pain as a result of the pleural fluid collection, are some of the most common symptoms of pleural mesothelioma.
Signs of peritoneal mesothelioma are weight loss, intestinal inflammation with pain as a result of ascites (this refers to the accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity). Other symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma may include bowel blockage, anemia, defects, bleeding and fever. In cases where the cancer has spread beyond the mesothelium to other parts of the body, symptoms may include pain, trouble swallowing, or swelling of the face or neck.
These characters can trigger mesothelioma, or other disorders that are less serious.
Mesothelioma that affects the pleura can create the following symptoms:
- Barrier Chest to ache.
- Coughing, wheezing and hoarseness.
- Exhaustion or anemia.
- Difficulty breathing.
- Pleural effusion (ie, liquids and its surroundings in the lungs).
- Traces of blood in the sputum coughed.
In severe cases, a person could be a wide range of masses of tumor. A person can also develop a pneumothorax (collapsed lung). Over time, the disease may metastasize, or spread to other areas of the body.
Tumors that affect the abdominal cavity often do not trigger signals until a later stage. Signs and symptoms may include:
- Stomach pain.
- Weight Loss
- Problems with the feces.
- A charge in the abdomen.
- Unusual accumulation of fluid in the abdomen.
In acute cases of the disease, signs and symptoms may appear:
- Acute Dropsy.
- Low blood sugar.
- A pleural effusion.
- Blood clotting in the veins, which may cause thrombophlebitis.
- Disseminated intravascular coagulation. In layman terms, is a condition that causes acute bleeding in many body organs.
- Jaundice. This refers to the yellowing of the eyes and skin.
- Blood clots in blood vessels of the lung.
Unlike other types of cancer, mesothelioma does not usually invade the brain, adrenal, or bone. Pleural tumors are usually located on one side of the lungs.
What causes mesothelioma?
The main cause of mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos. United States, asbestos is the major cause of malignant mesothelioma and is considered "definitely" related to the growth of mesothelioma.
